African 2 Piece Dress

I call this my cheeky grandma pose! We normally have very mild summers in the Pacific Northwest but this last summer "09, we had a string of unusually hot, hot days. This piece of African fabric was just what I needed to make a nice cool outfit. The top is a different pattern than the skirt, but the 2 look as if they belong together. This is a large diagonal print, so patterns need to be simple without  a lot of seams to show it best. The top has 3 pieces and the skirt 1 piece. I received many compliments when I wore it out. You know you are making statement when wearing clothing made of African fabrics. They are beautiful, bright, and exotic. You can also use them to make purses and totes, aprons, placemats, duvet covers. pillowcases and you can use them as accent trim on solid color clothing that you are making. This print is all sold out, and no longer available, but you can find more African fabrics by following link below

These 2 patterns were used to make this dress. Actually the skirt is so easy, you don't really need a pattern. Just measure your hips add seam allowance and 1 to 3 inches for ease, cut 2 rectangles this width + the length you desire, sew them with slits on the side for walking and moving. put elastic in the waist comfortable to your measurements, and voila! Done!
